Formado por Fenriz (Gylve Nagell) y Nocturno Culto (Ted Skjellum) han sacado material nuevo NWOBHM que significa "New age Of Black Heavy Metal" o nueva era del black heavy metal y preparando su proximo trabajo que será llamado F.O.A.D. que significa Fuck Off And Die. El nombre de Darkthrone fue inspirado en la revista danesa Blackthorn por ahi de 1985 - 1986 escrita por los integrantes de Desexult y a su vez inspirados en las letras de la canción de Celtic Frost Jewell Throne (algo asi: I'm the king, sitting in the dark hiding from the shadows of the wind/.../ As I gaze from the Jewel Throne)
